This statement is from 1994. It's my first attempt to explain the Delight drawings as well as others.
This next statement is from 1995, for a show at the Boulder Artists Gallery called "Stillness, Line and Water", with Scott Richeson. I've started to expand on the ideas above.
This statement is from later in 1995. I've taken a step back and am looking at the purpose of art in general.
This statement is for the Salina Art Center's juried show in 1996. I've taken the four paragraph statement from 1995 above and condensed it significantly.
I showed again at the Salina Art Center in 1997. For this statement, I've condensed the concepts even further, to the point of being like a mathematical proof. But then I've added a new section about art and love.
In 2000, I applied for a Colorado Council of the Arts fellowship and provided this much longer statement that goes into specifics about the pieces included in the application. Still keeping the basic statement concepts intact, I also explain some of the design and media choices.
Eleven years after the first statement, this last one is from 2005, written for a one-person show at Mercury Framing in Boulder. The show was called "Delightful Life" and included drawings from the Delight series and my pen-and-inks of textures. As of 2025, this is the last statement I've written about these works and I still like it a lot.
