These two images show a handbuilt pot I placed in the yard behind the studio. The inside was filled with anemone-like tendrils. It was my first foray into site-specific work. Besides, it was too heavy for me to carry it home! About 24 x 18 inches, 1988.

These two vases were based on a dream I had about carrots and a comet. The first vase is handbuilt and thrown, about 14 x 8 inches. The second vase plays with scale and is about 4 inches in length. Both 1988.

I started making tiles by my intermediate courses. The first image is site-specific and raku fired. The second image is a wall hanging. During the critique for this piece, my professor said the issues I was exploring in tiles could be more easily done through drawing. That comment stuck and is what I credit with starting me down my path into drawing grids and other tessellation-like works. Both from 1988.

The images below are from my wheelthrowing classes. We learned traditional techniques and forms; I especially liked raku firing and carved surfaces. All 1987.
